Typical of Tokfursten was also that it succeeded

“Typical of Tokfursten was also that it succeeded in telling this controversial contemporary story without losing opera’s demand as a genre for timelessness. The inner worlds of the king of fools are strongly portrayed. During the recurring scene in which the counsellor tries to reach him, there are two solitary violin notes – they move statically and without the ability to make contact. The passage becomes an example of how the musical form of expression conveys the feeling and concept of a scene – something which makes Tokfursten a very good opera to listen to on the stereo.”
